Break-in on Patricia Avenue

April 17, 2016

The occupants had been out from 2:30 pm until around 9pm. As they turned off Island Park Drive, they noticed a bicycle resting on the cedar hedge on the north side of Sunnymede at Island Park Drive. They also noticed a young man walking towards the bicycle from Patricia Avenue.

The occupants noticed that their back door was wide open and three basement window screens had been cut. They also noticed bike tire tracks in their backyard. Nothing appears to have been stolen.

One of the occupants believes he saw that same young man with a bicycle a few nights earlier, at night, in front of their house. The occupant does not believe the young man was there very long.

If you have any information about this any other crime or see anything suspicious please call police immediately.

Increase in thefts from vehicles

Last year, this was a major problem in Westboro and Westboro Beach.

The Ottawa Police Service has seen a significant increase in thefts from vehicles on Preston Street, particularly between Anderson Street and Carling Avenue and Somerset Street between Booth Street and Arthur Street in the last two weeks. The suspect(s) is targeting vehicles in the late afternoon and overnight. The suspect will target a vehicle that has a GPS, cell phones, bags or cash (loose change) left behind and are mainly doing smash and grabs.

Residents, business owners and employees are reminded to remove all valuables when leaving their vehicles and ensure their vehicles are secured. Please be diligent in reporting any suspicious people or activity to police immediately by calling 911.
